Finding The Flow
This study investigated how the Gestalt principle of continuity influences user perception by testing five GUI variations ranging from very low to highest continuity. By analyzing participant feedback, the research identified a "Goldilocks zone" in the balanced-mid level variant, which demonstrated the strongest relationship between perceived flow, ease of use, and intuitiveness. These findings contrast this optimal middle ground with the extremes of under-grouping and visual overload, demonstrating that strategic, intermediate continuity is essential for minimizing cognitive effort in complex interfaces.
